No Expiration Date: Sexuality & Aging is a theatrical interpretation of the qualitative data from a study conducted by Drs. Sara Mize and Alex Iantaffi at the Program in Human Sexuality at the University of Minnesota. The play was scripted by Pangea World Theater’s Executive/Literary Director Meena Natarajan from the focus group narratives of 61 seniors of diverse backgrounds and sexual orientations who were gathered to discuss their experiences of sexuality and aging.

With heart, humor, compassion, and unabashed directness, No Expiration Date: Sexuality & Aging explores the challenges and triumphs associated with aging sex and invites the audience to consider the role of mindfulness. A heartwarming, funny, poignant, naughty, illuminating, inspiring and thought-provoking theatrical experience with a diverse cast, it shows that there is a whole lot to learn from our elders’ experiences in spite of our youth-obsessed media and culture.

THE ARTS ACCESS CHAUTAUQUA

September 25 and 26, 2015

The Cowles Center for Dance & Performing Arts
528 Hennepin Avenue Minneapolis, Minnesota

Presented by VSA Minnesota and members of the state’s disability & arts communities

Through forums, presentations, showcases and a public performance, Minnesotans with and without disabilities will speak, perform, exhibit and discuss as musicians, actors, storytellers, dancers, writers, visual artists and audience members.

The Arts Access Chautauqua will be the first time since 1992 that the state arts community has come together to celebrate artists with disabilities in light of civil rights provided in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was signed into law on July 26, 1990, 25 years ago.

VSA Minnesota will conduct this two-day gathering for Minnesota arts, disability & public administrators and artists/arts attendees with and without disabilities that will:

  • Acknowledge successes in the Minnesota arts community that have taken place since passage of the ADA;
  • Recognize and show artistically the emergence of people with disabilities as active members of the Minnesota arts community;
  • Identify challenges that continue to serve as barriers to full inclusion of people with disabilities in the state arts environment;
  • Clarify best practices for arts organizations to serve people with disabilities more effectively;
  • Explore new opportunities to more fully engage people with disabilities with the arts.

In showcases & a public performance, Minnesota artists with disabilities will perform as musicians, actors, storytellers, dancers, and writers. Visual artists with disabilities, identified partly through our Emerging Artist Grant program (funded for 18 years by the Jerome Foundation), will also have their work exhibited.
